So you booked your african safari adventure (hopefully with Best Safaris ), and you’re headed to the bush but not exactly sure what to take. Fear not friends, we will tell you the essentials for your trip. You can always take more items depending on your specific individual needs, but you probably shouldn’t take less!
Travel Documents
You probably know this already, but a passport is required for international travel. It’s also a good idea to take a couple of photo copies of your passport as a backup just in case the worst-case scenario may happen, and you lose it. Printing out your e-ticket receipts for all your flights is also a good idea. It makes things easier for airline staff if they’re having problems finding you in their computer system, and you can also use it as proof of departure with customs officials of the countries you visit. You should also make sure you have two blank passport pages for each country you plan to visit. FYI, the last 3 pages of your passport are for amendments only and don’t count as blank pages.
Medications
Taking all your prescription medications with you is a must in african safari adventure. You are going to rural areas, and it will be difficult to find a pharmacy able to accommodate your needs. You might also want to take some ibuprofen or aspirin. A safari client’s tooth started to swell once, and another client had ibuprofen which he used to reduce the inflammation. If you have a sensitive stomach, it’s probably a good idea to take Imodium with you. Extra mosquito repellent is wise if you’re traveling in rainy season.
Wardrobe
One great thing about african safari adventure is there is no pressure to dress to impress. african Safari adventure ‘s are a casual affair. Some long and short sleeve shirts (in case you feel cold and want to layer up), a light jacket, and tennis shoes are recommended. Cotton is the recommended fabric for shirts and pants.
Shorts are good for the afternoons, while pants are good for the mornings and evenings when the weather is cooler. Some people think they need to wear hiking boots, but they aren’t a requirement. Sunglasses and a hat or visor are also a must.
If you’ve added a beach holiday such as a stay in Mombasa, don’t forget to take your sandals for when you go to the pool. As far as bathing suits go, the beach resorts get thousands of visitors from Europe each year and there are no strict dress codes to worry about.
Cash and Miscellaneous
Don’t’ forget to bring some cash! You’ll need it to pay for souvenirs and tip porters and other lodge staff. If you want to use a laptop, hair dryer, or charge a mobile phone, you’ll need electrical adapters. Camps and lodges usually give you two bottled waters a day which you can use for brushing your teeth and drinking. Additional bottled water is available for purchase.
And that’s basically all you need besides an open mind and positive attitude because we guarantee you will meet friendly people and see some amazing sights when you’re in AFRICA.
